Snap Q3 2026: Shares Fall 10% on Revenue, User Miss

Snap (SNAP) shares fell about 10% after Q3 2026 revenue of $1.72 billion and 495 million daily active users missed estimates, despite a return to profit.

  • Snap shares fell about 10% to near $5.30 in extended trading after Q3 revenue and daily users missed forecasts.
  • Revenue rose 14% to $1.72 billion; daily active users reached 495 million versus the 499 million expected.
  • Snap will make monthly active users its primary audience metric from Q1 2027.

Lead

Snap Inc. (NYSE: SNAP) fell about 10% in extended trading on Wednesday, November 4, to roughly $5.30 a share. The company reported third-quarter revenue of $1.72 billion, just under the $1.73 billion consensus, and daily active users (DAU) of 495 million, short of the 499 million forecast. Revenue was up 14% from $1.507 billion a year earlier. The company also posted a net profit of $56 million, against a loss of $104 million in the year-ago quarter.

Why Did Snap Shares Fall After Q3 Earnings?

Snap shares fell because the two metrics investors watch most closely, revenue and user count, both landed below expectations. The revenue shortfall was narrow, but the DAU gap was larger. At 495 million, DAU rose 4% year over year, yet the figure trailed forecasts by about 4 million users.

The user mix also weighed on the result. North America DAU fell 6% to 92 million, and Europe slipped 1% to 98 million. Rest of World grew 9% to 305 million. Growth is therefore coming from the regions where each user earns the least. Rest of World average revenue per user (ARPU) was $1.13, compared with $11.07 in North America.

Chief Commercial Officer Ronan Harris attributed the revenue shortfall to lower spending by consumer packaged goods advertisers. He cited macroeconomic pressure in the U.S. and the Middle East. Snap pointed to growth in other advertiser categories, including financial services.

How Did Snap Return to Profit?

Snap's profit came from cost discipline and higher revenue per user. Adjusted EBITDA, a profit measure that excludes items such as stock-based compensation, rose 110% to $383 million. That compares with $182 million a year earlier and beat the $337 million estimate. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.19 against the $0.16 expected. Operating margin improved to 4% from negative 9%.

ARPU rose 10% to $3.48, in line with expectations. By region, ARPU rose 20% in North America to $11.07 and 23% in Europe to $3.69.

Cash generation also improved. Operating cash flow rose 44% to $210 million, and free cash flow rose 76% to $164 million. Snap repurchased $601 million of stock in the first nine months of 2026 and booked $128.5 million in restructuring charges over the same period.

Regional Revenue Breakdown

North America revenue rose 13% to $1.014 billion, the largest contributor. Europe was the fastest-growing region, up 22% to $363 million. Rest of World revenue rose 11% to $345 million. Monthly active users rose 4% to 977 million.

What Did Snap Guide for Q4?

Snap guided fourth-quarter revenue to a range of $1.95 billion to $1.985 billion, with a midpoint above the roughly $1.95 billion consensus. Adjusted EBITDA is expected between $490 million and $525 million. Infrastructure costs are forecast to grow modestly year over year, and full-year infrastructure spending is projected at $1.65 billion to $1.66 billion.

The guidance suggests management expects advertising demand to recover from the third-quarter softness. The fourth quarter is seasonally the strongest for digital advertising, and the forecast implies sequential growth of about 13% at the midpoint.

Why Is Snap Changing Its Audience Metric?

Snap is moving to monthly active users as its primary audience metric from the first quarter of 2027. The company said daily engagement has historically been stable as a share of monthly engagement. The change arrives in a quarter when DAU missed estimates and fell in its two highest-value regions. It shifts reporting toward a figure that is less sensitive to shortfalls in daily engagement.

Strategic Context

Chief Executive Evan Spiegel said artificial intelligence is becoming a significant advantage for Snap's teams and its advertising platform. The company also highlighted the launch of its Specs augmented reality glasses. Snap is competing for ad budgets with much larger platforms. Advertisers weigh user scale and engagement against measurable returns, and Snap's improving ARPU shows its ad tools are monetizing a stagnant North American audience more effectively.

Outlook

Snap enters the holiday quarter with improving profitability and guidance above consensus, but with a user base that is shrinking in its most lucrative markets. The next test is whether fourth-quarter revenue reaches the guided $1.95 billion to $1.985 billion range as consumer packaged goods spending stabilizes. The shift to monthly active users from Q1 2027 will also change how investors measure audience growth.
