What happened
Natera (NTRA) stock fell 16.6% to $303.50 on Friday after an earnings miss, as a much wider quarterly loss outweighed a 34% revenue jump and a raised outlook. Sales rose to $794 million from $592 million a year ago, and the company lifted its 2026 sales forecast (guidance) to $3.005–$3.035 billion. But it lost $59.9 million, or 42 cents a share, far more than analysts expected, because it spent more on research, sales teams and its business serving drugmakers. CEO Steve Chapman also stepped down, and Solomon Moshkevich took over.
Why it matters
Natera, which makes genetic blood tests, shows that fast growth is not always enough for investors when a company is still losing money. Sales are climbing and the forecast went up, yet the stock dropped because losses were bigger than expected and the top boss changed at the same time. Other cancer and gene-testing companies, including Guardant Health and GRAIL, also fell after their own reports.
