What happened
Bloom Energy (BE) stock rose about 11% to near $218 on Tuesday after Barclays upgraded it to Overweight, citing faster demand and a growing backlog for its data-center fuel cells. Customers have put down $661 million in deposits (advance payments), up from $78 million at the end of 2025. Bloom also disclosed about $5.8 billion of long-term supply commitments through 2029. Separately, it signed a non-binding deal with California Resources to explore over 1 gigawatt of fuel cell power. The stock had fallen 27% in the month before.
Why it matters
Bloom Energy makes fuel cells, which are boxes that generate electricity on site, and AI data centers need a lot of power quickly. Barclays' upgrade to Overweight means its analyst now expects the stock to do better than the market. Rising deposits suggest more orders are coming, though Bloom still has to turn them into sales. Barclays also cut its price target to $289 from $316.
