What happened
Haleon (HLN) stock fell 14% on Thursday to a 52-week low near $8.57 after the company cut its 2026 sales growth target to about 2.5% on weak cold and flu demand. Third-quarter sales grew 2.6% from a year earlier, below the 3.2% analysts expected, as fewer people bought cough, cold and flu medicines. In China, Haleon had to stop shipping Centrum vitamins after a raw material was reclassified, and a sales-model change in Brazil will cut fourth-quarter sales by £15 million to £20 million. The old target was growth of 3% to 5%.
Why it matters
Haleon, the maker of Sensodyne toothpaste, Advil painkillers and Centrum vitamins, has shown how much its sales depend on a busy cold and flu season. Slower growth in North America, its biggest market, made investors rethink what the company is worth. Haleon still expects profit to grow by a high single-digit percentage and is putting another £500 million into buying back its own shares, so the problem is slower sales rather than falling profit.
