What happened

Moderna (MRNA) stock rose about 9% to $263.11 on Friday after the vaccine maker beat third-quarter estimates and raised its 2026 revenue growth outlook to 15%–25%, from up to 10% before. Quarterly sales were $1.31 billion, up 29% from a year ago, versus about $890 million analysts expected. It also earned $0.38 per share when analysts expected a loss. Management said some of the strength came from the timing of shipments. Moderna also lifted its expected year-end cash to $8.1 billion–$8.3 billion.

Why it matters

Moderna's higher forecast signals that its vaccine sales are growing, helped by new products and long-term deals with foreign governments. The company now expects to end the year with much more cash than it planned, which gives it more room to fund new medicines such as its melanoma cancer vaccine. The stock is already up more than 700% this year, so expectations are high. Part of the quarter's strength may not repeat.
