What happened

Super Micro (SMCI) stock rose about 6% to near $33 in after-hours trading on Tuesday after record quarterly revenue of $19.95B, far above the $16.4B analysts expected. Sales for the three months to September 30 were almost four times last year's level, and adjusted profit was $1.81 a share against $1.23 expected. The server maker also raised its full-year sales forecast (guidance) to $72B–$82B from $65B–$72B. AI products made up 71% of sales.

Why it matters

Super Micro's results show that companies are still spending heavily on AI data centers, the large buildings full of computers that run AI tools. That spending flows to server makers and to the chip makers that supply them. The picture is not all positive: the company keeps only about 13 cents of each sales dollar after production costs, and its operating cash flow was negative $434M.
