What happened
Brent crude oil (BZ=F) fell 1.1% to settle at $103.60 on Tuesday after hopes grew that US-Iran peace talks, mediated by Qatar, could end the war. Oil had already dropped more than 7% on Monday, after both countries said they were open to talks (per). Stocks recovered on Election Day: the S&P 500 rose 0.36% to 7,568.92, ending a three-day losing streak as chip stocks bounced back. Separately, President Trump said the US will stop giving Israel $4 billion a year in aid after this year, though Israel can still buy American weapons.
Why it matters
Brent crude oil, the main global price for oil, is still above $100 a barrel, so it keeps fuel and shipping costs high for households and businesses. Its direction now depends on whether the US-Iran talks produce a deal, which Iranian officials say is still far off. The Israel decision is a policy change rather than a market mover. It ends yearly grants from 2027 but keeps weapons sales going.
