What happened
FedEx Freight (FDXF) stock jumped about 14% to around $125 on Friday after beating profit estimates and forecasting fourth-quarter earnings above expectations, as analysts backed its 2027 growth targets. The trucking company, which split off from FedEx on June 1, earned an adjusted $1.49 a share, versus about $1.38 expected. It expects 65 to 75 cents a share next quarter, well above the 53 cents analysts predicted. Its finance chief said 2027 sales growth should stay within a 4%–6% target, with profit margin moving toward 15%.
Why it matters
FedEx Freight's jump shows investors think the trucking business may be turning a corner after a rough start as a separate company. Its shares had fallen about 27% in the three months before the report. Management said it won its strongest price increases on customer contracts in recent years, which helps profits even if shipping demand stays weak. It is also the stock's first monthly gain since listing.
