What happened
Iovance (IOVA) stock fell about 32% to near $10 on Thursday after its lung cancer trial data showed a 24.6% response rate, unchanged from earlier results despite a teaser promising positive data. The company had said Wednesday night that good news was coming, and shares jumped more than 10% after hours. A response rate is the share of patients whose tumors shrank. Here, 17 of 69 patients responded, versus 25.6% in the earlier, smaller group. Patients without a KRAS gene mutation did better at 43.3%, and a 22-patient subgroup reached 59.1%.
Why it matters
Iovance's lung cancer trial is a key test of whether its cell therapy, lifileucel, can treat more patients and grow beyond its current sales. The overall result did not improve, so the company is now focusing on a narrower group of patients who responded better. It plans to enroll them in a new study starting in November 2026 and to ask the FDA for approval in 2027.
