What happened
Bloom Energy (BE) stock fell about 5% in after-hours trading on Thursday from a $217.77 close despite an earnings beat, as investors weighed its high valuation and worries about AI spending. The fuel cell maker earned $0.94 per share (adjusted) against $0.67 expected, and sales were $1.24 billion against about $1.07 billion expected. Sales more than doubled from a year ago, up 138%, and Bloom raised its 2026 sales forecast to $4.4 billion to $4.6 billion. Shares had already dropped 8.7% in regular trading.
Why it matters
Bloom Energy shows how strong results can still fail to lift a stock priced for perfection. Its fuel cells give AI data centers their own on-site electricity, so many investors treat it as a bet on AI spending. When worries about that spending grow, shares can fall sharply even while sales surge. The stock is now about 36% below its June record, though still up roughly 147% this year.
