What happened
Wall Street's Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) rose 0.5% on Friday to about 27,350 as tech stocks rebounded and oil eased after Trump spoke of "productive discussions" with Iran. Trump also said the U.S. will not attack Iran before the November midterm elections. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, slipped about 1% but stayed above $100 a barrel. Delta Air Lines fell about 3% before the open after cutting its 2026 profit forecast because of high fuel costs.
Why it matters
The Nasdaq's rebound shows how closely stocks are tracking oil prices and Iran headlines. Expensive oil raises costs for airlines and shoppers. A 10-year Treasury yield above 5%, a key benchmark for borrowing costs, keeps loans pricey. Fighting in the region continues even as talks go on, so the calm could be short-lived.
