What happened
SpaceX (SPCX) stock rose 2.04% on Friday after CFO Bret Johnsen disclosed a new $1.11 billion-a-month AI compute-hosting contract beginning December, adding roughly $13 billion in annual recurring revenue. Johnsen made the disclosure at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 10, without naming the customer. SpaceX also holds AI compute agreements with Anthropic at $1.25 billion a month and with Google at $920 million a month beginning October, bringing total monthly compute revenue above $3.28 billion by December. The CFO said he has 'even more conviction' the company will reach $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by year-end 2026.
Why it matters
SpaceX's AI compute business is now growing fast enough to position the company alongside Amazon and Microsoft as a leading cloud infrastructure provider, competing for the same AI customers. For ordinary investors, this means a company valued mainly on rockets and satellite internet is rapidly building one of the most profitable corners of the tech industry. If SpaceX hits $100 billion in annual recurring revenue by December, it would rank among the world's highest-revenue companies within its first six months of public trading.
