eBay Q3 2026: Revenue Up 14% to $3.2B, Shares Jump 6%

eBay (EBAY) shares rose more than 6% premarket after Q3 2026 revenue climbed 14% to $3.2 billion, beating estimates, as it lifted its full-year outlook.

  • Q3 revenue rose 14% to $3.2B, above the roughly $3.11B consensus; adjusted EPS of $1.51 beat the $1.41 estimate.
  • Gross merchandise volume reached $23.2B, up 16% on an FX-neutral basis; active buyers rose to 147 million.
  • Full-year revenue guidance rose to $12.62B-$12.67B; adjusted EPS guidance rose to $6.25-$6.30.

eBay shares gained more than 6% to about $125 in premarket trading on October 29 after the marketplace operator reported third-quarter results that beat Wall Street estimates on revenue, earnings and guidance. Net revenue for the quarter ended September 30 rose 14% to $3.2 billion from $2.8 billion a year earlier. Non-GAAP earnings per share from continuing operations came in at $1.51, against a consensus near $1.41. The company reported after the close on October 28.

What Drove eBay's Third-Quarter Beat?

Faster volume growth and the contribution of a newly acquired fashion marketplace drove the beat. Gross merchandise volume, the total value of goods sold on the platform, reached $23.2 billion, up 15% as reported and 16% on an FX-neutral basis.

Depop, bought from Etsy (ETSY) for $1.4 billion in cash on July 30, added to the totals. Organic growth stayed strong, however. Focus categories, which include collectibles, eBay Motors and fashion, posted GMV growth of 24%. eBay Live, the live-video shopping format, recorded triple-digit GMV growth. Advertising revenue rose 16% to $607 million.

Active buyers totaled 147 million, up 10% from a year earlier. Excluding Depop and Tise, the base was 136 million, up 1%.

How Did Profitability and Cash Flow Look?

Profit grew in dollar terms, though margins were mixed. GAAP operating margin was 19.2%, down from 20.3% a year earlier, while non-GAAP operating margin was 26.3%. GAAP EPS from continuing operations was $1.11.

Operating cash flow was $875 million and free cash flow was $749 million. Free cash flow for the first nine months reached $1.97 billion. In the quarter eBay repurchased $689 million of stock, about 6 million shares, and paid $138 million in dividends. Capital returned to shareholders totaled $827 million.

Why Did the Shares React So Strongly?

The guidance mattered as much as the quarter. eBay raised its full-year 2026 revenue forecast to $12.62 billion-$12.67 billion, above the consensus near $12.54 billion. It also lifted adjusted EPS guidance to $6.25-$6.30, compared with a consensus near $6.14. Full-year GMV is expected at $91.5 billion-$91.9 billion, or about 14% growth on an FX-neutral basis.

For the fourth quarter, eBay guided to:

  • Revenue of $3.19 billion-$3.24 billion
  • GMV of $23.7 billion-$24.1 billion
  • Non-GAAP EPS of $1.48-$1.53

Organic FX-neutral GMV growth is projected at 8% to 10%, against 12% to 14% including acquisitions. Management also said it expects 2027 growth in GMV, revenue, non-GAAP operating income and EPS, driven by focus categories, eBay Live, consumer-to-consumer sales and Depop, alongside continued investment in artificial intelligence.

Strategic Context

The quarter shows eBay's shift from a broad, low-growth auction site toward higher-value resale verticals. Authenticity Guarantee, managed shipping and AI-powered listing tools aim to reduce friction in categories where trust and condition matter, such as trading cards, watches, sneakers and auto parts. The Depop deal adds a younger, fashion-focused audience and a larger share of circular-fashion demand.

CEO Jamie Iannone said innovations across eBay Live, shipping and the company's portfolio are making the platform "more trusted, seamless, and compelling." CFO Peggy Alford said the strategy is delivering strong GMV growth and meaningful earnings expansion.

What Comes Next for eBay Stock?

The stock now trades near its 52-week high of about $124.59, so the next test is whether organic growth holds as acquisition effects fade. The fourth-quarter guide implies organic GMV growth of 8% to 10%. That is slower than the third quarter's pace, but it is still the kind of expansion eBay rarely delivered in the past decade. Margin trends, particularly after the Depop purchase, and the holiday-quarter volume pattern will set the tone for the 2027 outlook.

Outlook

eBay enters the final quarter of 2026 with accelerating volume, a raised full-year forecast and a steady buyback program. Revenue of $3.2 billion, up 14%, and adjusted EPS of $1.51 both exceeded consensus. The fourth-quarter report will show whether focus categories, live commerce and Depop can sustain double-digit growth once the acquisition boost fades.
