China's CSI 300 Falls 1.6% for 11th Week as Rare-Earth Deadline Nears
Why did China's CSI 300 fall for an 11th straight week?
China's CSI 300 (000300.SS) fell 1.6% in the week to Friday, its record 11th straight weekly drop, as investors faced stimulus doubts and a Nov. 10 rare-earth deadline.

What happened
China's CSI 300 (000300.SS) fell 1.6% in the week to Friday, its record 11th straight weekly drop, as investors faced stimulus doubts and a Nov. 10 rare-earth deadline. The index of 300 big Shanghai and Shenzhen companies has lost over 20% since its June 22 peak, which counts as a bear market, and Friday's 1.7% bounce did not stop the slide. A one-year pause on China's wider rare-earth (metals used in magnets, chips and cars) export rules runs out Nov. 10, and recent reports show no extension. A draft to ban or license exports of 40 AI, chip, solar and biomedicine technologies is open for comment until Nov. 15.
Why it matters
China's CSI 300 shows how nervous investors are about the world's second-largest economy, and the Nov. 10 and Nov. 15 dates add more uncertainty. Rare earths go into car motors, chips and defense gear, and China processes up to 90% of them, so tighter rules could raise costs for factories worldwide. The technology draft could also limit what foreign firms can license from China in AI, solar and drug research.
