What happened
NextDC (NXT) shares were halted on Monday at A$9.18 after a power-supply delay at its Melbourne M3 data centre, tied to residents blocking power poles, may hit its FY27 guidance. In August, residents on Sanderson Street in Yarraville blocked crews with parked cars and bins, and the crews left and have not returned. Citi analysts think the power company Jemena paused work on the power lines, delaying about 70 of the 155 megawatts of new Victorian customer capacity expected this financial year. Citi puts about A$25 million of operating profit (EBITDA) at risk, roughly 6% of the middle of NextDC's A$385–410 million forecast.
Why it matters
NextDC runs data centres, the large buildings that store and process the internet and AI workloads, and it cannot bill customers at a site until power is connected. A delay at M3 pushes back income the company had told investors to expect. It shows how local disputes and electricity supply can hold up data-centre growth.
