What happened
Marvell (MRVL) stock rose 6% to $241.27 on Monday after a Google TPU v9 chip delay, which a GF Securities analyst said does not hurt its long-term role. Google's next AI chip is running about three weeks late. The process that joins its chip pieces together (packaging) is only producing usable parts 45% to 50% of the time. Analyst Jeff Pu now expects shipments in the first quarter of 2028. Broadcom (AVGO), which also works with Google, rose about 3%, while MediaTek may face short-term pressure.
Why it matters
Marvell is one of the companies helping Google build its own AI chips, a business the company has guided could reach tens of billions of dollars in sales. Late chips can slow the AI services built on them. The analyst's view eased worries that Marvell or Broadcom could lose work to rivals. Even so, both stocks moved sharply on a single research note, a sign of how sensitive AI chip shares are to news.
