What happened
Brent crude oil (BZ=F) fell 0.7% to $105.21 a barrel on Friday after Trump ruled out nuclear weapons against Iran, easing fears, though he kept a Pickaxe Mountain strike possible. Trump told Newsmax the US does not need nuclear weapons and does not expect to send ground troops, but said of Pickaxe Mountain, "We may have to go there". The site lies about 100 meters underground near Natanz and is the last big nuclear-linked site not yet struck. Oil is still set for a weekly gain, with US crude (WTI) up 5.8%, as attacks near the Strait of Hormuz keep shipping at risk.
Why it matters
Oil matters to anyone who buys fuel or goods, and its price now moves with each Iran headline. Ruling out nuclear weapons and ground troops lowers the chance of the widest war, which helped prices dip. But a strike on Pickaxe Mountain could bring Iranian attacks on Gulf oil sites, which Iran has threatened. Trump has said no attacks will come before the Nov. 3 elections.
