What happened
Anthropic (not yet listed) said Q3 revenue rose 45% to $16.8B in a Wednesday investor meeting, as the Claude maker pitches a $1.8–2T valuation for an IPO before Thanksgiving. The 45% is growth from the previous three months, when sales were $11.6B; in the first quarter they were $4.7B. Anthropic also told investors it made a profit on an adjusted basis, a measure that leaves out some costs. Reuters says the stock market debut may slip until after the November US midterm elections.
Why it matters
Anthropic's planned stock market debut would let everyday investors own a piece of one of the biggest AI companies. Its sales are growing fast, but it has also committed to spend at least $518B over ten years on cloud services and computing. The listing will test whether buyers believe AI sales can outgrow those huge bills.
