What happened
Domino's (DPZ) stock fell 4.8% to $296.10 on Tuesday after the pizza chain's U.S. same-store sales grew only 0.3% in the third quarter, a sign that stretched shoppers are ordering less. Domino's did beat profit forecasts, earning $4.60 per share on $1.19 billion in sales, up 3.4% from a year ago. But sales at U.S. stores open at least a year (same-store sales) grew just 0.3%, down from 5.2% a year earlier. Customers kept ordering but bought fewer items per order. The company also cut its 2026 target for new U.S. stores to 125–150.
Why it matters
Domino's runs more than 22,000 stores worldwide, so its sales work as a health check on everyday spending. Sales that barely grew suggest households are trimming restaurant orders, even for lower-priced meals. Management expects that pressure to last through the end of the year. A slower store rollout also points to thinner profits for the franchise owners who run most locations.
