What happened
CoreWeave (CRWV) stock fell about 16% on Wednesday to about $66 after its bond yields neared 15%, sharpening investor fears about borrowing to build AI data centers. CoreWeave rents out AI computing power and has borrowed heavily. The yield (the extra interest lenders demand) on its 2032 bonds touched 15%, up from about 9% this summer. The stock closed down 15.5% at $65.78, and Oracle ended down about 9%. CEO Mike Intrator said the market was acting "irrationally".
Why it matters
CoreWeave's slide shows lenders now want much more interest to fund AI data centers, which are built mostly with borrowed money. Its interest bill was $640 million last quarter, up from $267 million a year earlier, so higher borrowing costs leave less room for profit. Oracle, also a heavy borrower, fell about 9%, which shows the worry is spreading beyond one company.
