What happened
Stargate UAE, the roughly $30B OpenAI and Oracle (ORCL) AI campus, faces an Iran threat after security chief Mohsen Rezaei said this weekend Gulf data centers would be destroyed if war resumes. Rezaei said such sites are not yet targets, but that cables, data centers and AI facilities would be hit if war breaks out. Tehran also called Washington's latest reply to its peace proposal "insufficient," and talks remain stalled. Iran's Guards named Stargate UAE in an April video, and drones already hit Amazon data centers in the UAE in March.
Why it matters
Stargate UAE is a major test of whether AI buildings now count as targets in a war. Data centers hold the computers behind chatbots and cloud services, so damage could slow those services and raise costs for firms like Oracle and Amazon. Amazon already lost customer data in the Gulf after earlier strikes. A resumed war would put the roughly $30B UAE build-out at risk.
