Brent Crude Slips to $103 After Energy Ceasefire Claim
Why is oil down today?
Brent crude (BZ=F) fell about 1.5% to roughly $103 a barrel on Monday after Trump announced a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire, which traders hoped would free up more Russian fuel supply.

What happened
Brent crude (BZ=F) fell about 1.5% to roughly $103 a barrel on Monday after Trump announced a Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire, which traders hoped would free up more Russian fuel supply. Trump said both sides agreed to stop hitting each other's energy sites, effective immediately. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said his country learned of the deal from the media, and Russian drones and bombs kept hitting Ukraine on Sunday. The Kremlin only said contacts are ongoing.
Why it matters
Brent crude is the main price benchmark for oil, so its moves feed into what people pay for gasoline and diesel. A real ceasefire could ease fuel supply, but about half of Russia's refining capacity is still knocked out by Ukrainian drone strikes (per). Oil also stays above $100 because of Iran and Strait of Hormuz tensions, which a Russia-Ukraine deal does not fix.
