Oracle Stock Falls 5.5% on OpenAI Revenue Worries
Why did Oracle stock fall 5.5%?
Oracle (ORCL) stock fell 5.5% to about $135.69 on Thursday after the Financial Times reported OpenAI's annualized revenue is near $50 billion, not the $70 billion earlier reports suggested.

What happened
Oracle (ORCL) stock fell 5.5% to about $135.69 on Thursday after the Financial Times reported OpenAI's annualized revenue is near $50 billion, not the $70 billion earlier reports suggested. Chip stocks fell too: Nvidia (NVDA) dropped about 2.9%, Intel (INTC) about 5.3%, and the Nasdaq 100 lost 1.4%. The gap seems to come from how revenue is counted, and the $70 billion figure did not come from OpenAI. Oracle is exposed because OpenAI signed a $300 billion, five-year cloud deal, about 45% of Oracle's $664 billion in contracted future sales (per).
Why it matters
Oracle's 5.5% drop shows how much of the AI boom depends on a few big customers being able to pay their bills. If OpenAI grows more slowly than hoped, companies that sell it computing power and chips could earn less than investors expected. The scare comes as Oracle is reportedly exploring more financing for AI chips and borrowing costs are rising. Part of the gap is only a counting difference, so the business itself may not be weaker.
