What happened
OpenAI (private) is seeking a valuation near $1.4 trillion, 64% above March, in a round of at least $30 billion reported Monday, as it delays its IPO to 2027. Abu Dhabi investor MGX and other UAE funds are discussing up to $10 billion, and asset manager BlackRock is also in talks. OpenAI raised $122 billion in March at an $852 billion valuation. No lead investor has been chosen yet, so terms could still change. Sam Altman has said listing shares in 2026 would be ill-timed.
Why it matters
OpenAI's planned raise shows how much money is still flowing into AI, even though ordinary investors cannot yet buy its shares. A $1.4 trillion valuation, meaning what investors say the company is worth, would be 64% higher than in March. The round is expected to be its last before a stock market debut (IPO) now pushed to 2027, so public investors wait longer to take part.
