What happened
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) stock rose about 4.5% to near $64 on Wednesday after a $1.2 billion AI systems order from Vultr and a higher networking growth outlook. Vultr, a private cloud company, ordered AI server racks built on AMD chips, HPE's first order of this type. HPE also said its networking business should grow 'high-teens to low-20s' percent next fiscal year. It raised its yearly savings target from buying Juniper Networks from $600 million to $800 million.
Why it matters
Hewlett Packard Enterprise is showing that the AI spending boom is now reaching server makers, not just chip companies. The Vultr deal is its first win for AMD-based AI racks, an alternative to Nvidia-based systems. Bigger Juniper savings and faster networking targets suggest HPE expects that purchase to pay off more than planned. The stock is up about 168% over the past year, so expectations are already high.
