What happened

Accenture (ACN) stock jumped about 21% to roughly $222 on Thursday after a fourth-quarter earnings beat and record $84.5B in bookings eased fears that AI will cut consulting demand. Sales rose 6% to $18.7 billion, above the roughly $18 billion analysts expected. Bookings, the value of new client contracts signed, hit a record $84.5 billion for the full year. Accenture also forecast sales growth of 3% to 6% for fiscal 2027. Rival Cognizant rose more than 11% in sympathy (per).

Why it matters

Accenture is one of the world's biggest consulting and technology services firms, so its results act as a health check for the whole industry. Its shares had fallen about 33% this year on worries that AI could replace consulting work. Record bookings suggest clients are still spending on AI projects, which also lifted rival IT services firms.
