What happened
Nasdaq Composite (IXIC) rose 1.1% to 26,430.89 on Monday as Micron (MU), Sandisk (SNDK) and AMD bounced, with investors returning to chip stocks after the Nasdaq's worst week since June. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% to 7,690.73, while the Dow slipped 0.07% to 51,966.03. Micron rose about 3% and Sandisk about 5.5%, after losing roughly 15% and 18% the week before, and AMD gained about 4%. Last week's drop was tied to worries that China's chipmaker CXMT could add memory chip supply and push prices down.
Why it matters
The Nasdaq's rebound matters because a handful of AI-linked chip makers now move the whole market. Memory chips are in demand because AI data centers need them, so fears of extra supply from China hit these stocks hard last week. One good day does not erase the damage: the Nasdaq still fell 4.5% last week. Most S&P 500 stocks actually fell on Monday, so the gains were narrow.
