What happened
Option Care Health (OPCH) stock jumped 33% to about $31 on Tuesday after McKesson and CD&R agreed to buy the home infusion company for $32.05 a share in a $5.8 billion deal. The $32.05 cash price is 37% above Monday's close, and the $5.8 billion figure includes the company's debt. CD&R, a private equity firm, will own about 51%, and McKesson, a large drug distributor, will invest about $1.4 billion for the other 49%. Shares had already jumped more than 20% overnight after the Financial Times reported talks. Closing is expected in the first half of 2027.
Why it matters
Option Care Health is the largest independent U.S. provider of infusion care, meaning medicines given through an IV or injection, often at a patient's home. McKesson says the deal fits its push toward complex treatments in lower-cost settings outside hospitals. Because buyers are paying cash, the stock now trades near the $32.05 offer rather than moving with company results. Option Care also withdrew its financial forecast.
