What happened
Anthropic (no ticker yet) is targeting an IPO as early as mid-November that could raise up to $100B at a $2T valuation, with seven co-founders keeping 50.1% of the vote through one share. Anthropic, maker of the Claude AI assistant, would sell shares to the public for the first time, and the Wall Street Journal says it now expects November so it can show third-quarter results. Bloomberg says marketing could start the week of Nov. 9. The seven co-founders own about 2% each but would control half the votes through that one share.
Why it matters
Anthropic's IPO would be the largest stock market debut on record, bigger than SpaceX's roughly $86 billion raise in June. Ordinary investors could own a piece of a leading AI company for the first time, but they would have little say, since the founders keep half the votes. Some analysts doubt the price: one research firm values the company at just $150 billion.
