What happened
Robinhood (HOOD) stock fell about 1.6% to roughly $114 on Wednesday after opening near 5% higher on AI trading agents, 24/7 stock trading and crypto perpetual futures unveiled at HOOD Summit. Robinhood's in-app AI agents can research markets and place trades for customers, and stock trading is set to expand from five days a week to seven, pending regulatory review. Crypto perpetual futures, which are bets with no end date, will allow up to 10x leverage (borrowed money that magnifies gains and losses) on bitcoin and ether. Shares gapped up about 5% at the open, then faded.
Why it matters
Robinhood is betting that active traders will want AI helpers and round-the-clock markets, which could bring more trading activity to its app. Leverage and automated trades can also magnify losses, and Robinhood says customers carry the risk for trades their agents make. Weekend stock trading and perpetual futures are not live yet, so the effect on the company's sales is still unknown.
