The trade-off is real: in years when the market rises strongly, the cap means the investor misses out on the full gain. If the U.S. equity market returns 20 percent and GFEB’s cap is 12 percent, the investor who could have had the full 20 percent and instead has 12 percent has sacrificed 8 percentage points of upside for the sake of protection.
