What happened
Micron (MU:NASDAQ) stock fell 2.1% to $1,074.89 on Friday even after an earnings beat, as investors weighed record AI memory sales against its 273% gain this year. Sales in the latest quarter were $54.23 billion, almost four times the $11.32 billion a year earlier and above the $51.07 billion analysts expected. Sales to data centers, which buy memory chips for AI servers, rose 11-fold. Micron also forecast $61.5 billion in sales for the current quarter, a company forecast known as guidance, which beat expectations too.
Why it matters
Micron shows how strongly AI is driving demand for memory chips, the parts that let computers store and quickly reach data. The company said it cannot see when the shortage will end and expects conditions to stay tight through 2027 and 2028. The muted stock reaction suggests investors had already priced in much of the good news, and some worry demand could cool later, as it has in past chip cycles. Record results do not always lift a stock.
